Museum and Visitor Centre
The architect-designed Lord Howe Island Museum, opened in 2002, has a range of innovative displays on the islandβs World Heritage environment, community and history
Going back to 1788 when the Island was discovered by HMS Supply of the First Fleet, and covering 166 years of continuous settlement since 1834.
There is even a skeleton of an extinct giant horned turtle, Meiloania platyceps.
The museum also offers a learning and scientific centre holding valuable archives, photographs and records with a reading/research room with computer facilities, photocopying and internet access.
Lord Howe Island Visitors Centre
The Lord Howe Island Visitor Centre is located in the Museum foyer and can provide information on activities, events, dining and any other information about the island. For enquiries, please call (02) 6563 2114 or email visit@lordhoweisland.info.
Museum Audio Visual Centre
Weekly presentations on geology, birds, flora and fauna, history and marine life are hosted by Ian Hutton and Chris Murray, check with the Visitors Centre on arrival for weekly schedule.

Coral Cafe
Coral Cafe is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Great choice and best price, located in the visitor centre and museum.
